About The Position

Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD) is seeking to hire an Office Services Specialist to join our team. BRHD is one of 35 health districts under the Virginia Department of Health, serving the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson, and the city of Charlottesville. Serving the approximately 250,000 residents of our district, we are committed to advancing the health equity of our citizens and staff. This position will be located at our Nelson County Health Department. Utilizing established policies and procedures, provides program and office support to a work unit including general office and administrative support. Characteristic duties may include routine office and administrative responsibilities, scheduling meetings, data entry, routine transactions, preparing correspondence, maintaining records, ordering supplies, and answering questions regarding program services offered. The incumbent typically serves as the first point of contact for a program or work unit and directs inquiries to the appropriate office, division, or resource, and explains established procedures and practices. May be responsible for maintaining timesheets and entering time/leave into timekeeping/payroll system for assigned program area. This position performs administrative tasks, requiring interpretation and judgment in applying policies and procedures to respond to citizen and staff inquiries in support of the Environmental Health program. Accepts and processes multiple types of applications ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations. Schedules site visits, determines fees and writes receipts. Researches properties and compiles historical data. In support of the Vital Statistics Program, is the Deputy Registrar who serves as point of contact for program information assisting internal and external customers. Reviews death certificates for accuracy. Provides office support and assistance to the EH Specialists, other staff and other programs as assigned to include secretarial duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of office principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of work processing and spreadsheet software applications.
  • Ability to interpret and follow established procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, verbally and in writing.
  • Considerable skill in the operation of standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in office setting specific to program area.
  • Experience working in a clinical setting to include registration & determine eligibility.
  • Experience in preparing and processing deposits; experience in collecting payments, reconcile cash and receipts.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English.
