About The Position

The Assistant Regulation Counsel - Trial Division at the Colorado Supreme Court Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel is responsible for representing the People of the State of Colorado in attorney discipline proceedings and related legal matters. This role involves investigating complaints against attorneys, prosecuting claims in court, and engaging in various litigation activities. The position also includes developing educational programs and formulating policies related to the regulation of legal practice in Colorado.

Requirements

  • Law degree and admission to or eligibility for admission to the practice of law in Colorado.
  • Five years of actual experience practicing law.
  • Three years of actual litigation experience, including participation as lead counsel or second-chair in trials or contested hearings.
  • Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct and their application.
  • Strong understanding of law office management issues.
  • Familiarity with the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate complaints alleging unethical conduct against attorneys.
  • Prosecute claims in courtroom settings.
  • Direct investigations and engage in trial strategy.
  • Conduct depositions and participate in motions practice.
  • Draft legal memoranda, reports, motions, briefs, and appeals.
  • Negotiate resolutions with opposing parties and counsel.
  • Develop and present educational programs for lawyers and the public.
  • Formulate policy related to the regulation of the practice of law.
