As an Office Investigator at Anoka County, you will be responsible for performing medicolegal death investigations in accordance with Minnesota Statute 390.11, Department of Justice Guidelines 149a, National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) Recommendations, ABMDI Principles, and the policies and procedures of the Midwest Medical Examiner Office (MMEO). This role requires you to coordinate daily operations with both internal and external stakeholders, remotely assist field investigation staff, and make critical decisions regarding the acceptance or decline of jurisdictions for all deaths that fall under the MMEO's jurisdiction. This full-time, non-exempt position is based at the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office in Ramsey, MN, and offers various shifts including day, evening, and night shifts, with every other weekend off. In this position, you will receive death calls from all counties and agencies under MMEO jurisdiction and will be tasked with completing case reports for all non-scene investigations. You will coordinate and interact with law enforcement and other investigative agencies to ensure evidence is released in a professional and courteous manner. Additionally, you will dispatch Field Investigators to death scenes, review submitted scene cases, and may need to respond to death scenes to conduct on-scene investigations as necessary. Your role will also involve requesting identification and medical records, interviewing individuals to gather relevant medical and psychosocial history, and providing support to families during their time of grief. You will be responsible for completing preliminary autopsy reports, communicating findings to families, facilitating body intake and release, and reviewing cremation authorizations. Administrative activities will also be part of your duties, all while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. As a leader, you may provide coaching and mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned, ensuring that all operations align with the standards set forth by the MMEO.
