  • Issuing permits of all types and scheduling inspections.
  • Communicating with property owners and contractors regarding land use activities and handling a large volume of incoming phone calls.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Land Development Code, Comprehensive Plan, and ordinances.
  • Providing information and documentation concerning permitting, inspections, planning, and development to developers, builders, and the public.
  • Making quick decisions regarding the approval of development permits based on ordinances and policies.
  • Scheduling inspections and maintaining inspection records.
  • Receiving and maintaining various plans and applications, reviewing them for completeness and accuracy, and distributing them as required.
  • Verifying accuracy in all documentation, including addresses, certified foundation surveys, setbacks, easements, alleyways, right of ways, plats, maps, plat books, and plot plans.
  • Performing heavy data entry, including Certificate of Occupancy and entering data on permits and related reports.
  • Preparing, updating, and maintaining various databases and departmental records and files.
  • Managing department files, reviewing them for accuracy, and making adjustments to data as required.
  • Working collaboratively with other county departments toward project approval and performing tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assisting other departmental employees by relaying and requesting information as directed by the supervisor.
  • High school graduate with college or relevant trade education.
  • 1-3 years of experience with permits and construction-related tasks strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in an office or customer service environment.
  • Physically able to lift, push, carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Excellent spelling and grammar with heavy data entry skills and no spelling corrections.
  • A positive attitude and a valid driver's license.
  • An updated Florida Notary certification.
  • Organized with excellent attention to detail and reliable.
  • Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Able to type 25-35 WPM.
