About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Office/Field Engineer to join the Metro G Line Bus Rapid Transit team, a major transit infrastructure project in the San Fernando Valley. This role will specifically have the privilege of working on subway tunnels, supporting the installation of fiber optic cables. This full-time position is ideal for individuals available for night and weekend work. If you are eager to gain field experience in transportation construction, systems installations, and subcontractor coordination within an active rail transit environment this is the job for you! Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience within similar construction environment, internships included.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and irregular hours based on track access requirements. (one year min)
  • Willingness to work in tunnel environments and around active transit operations.
  • Strong communication skills and professionalism when interacting with field crews and agency representatives.
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and structure work flows to maximize productivity.
  • Have a Valid U.S. Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and navigate uneven surfaces, access structures, and confined environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong interest in transportation, transit systems, or underground construction.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with Bluebeam, Box, Procore or similar platforms is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Field Supervision: Assist in daily oversight of subcontractor activities installing fiber optic cable, innerduct, junction boxes, and related communication system components in an underground rail tunnel environment. Night and weekend work included.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor workmanship to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, safety requirements, and industry standards. Conduct field inspections and document installation progress.
  • Coordination & Communication: Interface with subcontractors, general contractor teams, Metro representatives, and other field staff to support safe and efficient execution of work.
  • Daily Reporting: Prepare accurate daily reports, track quantities, maintain as-built documentation, and assist with updating field records and redline drawings.
  • Safety Monitoring: Support enforcement of safety protocols in a confined-space, electrified-rail environment. Ensure subcontractor adherence to rail safety training, PPE, and work area protection procedures.
  • Field Verification: Assist with pre-installation surveys, material verification, and layout checks.
  • Issue Resolution: Identify field conflicts or unforeseen conditions and support operations and engineering staff in developing solutions, coordinating with designers as needed.
  • Testing Support: Participate in fiber optic cable testing, continuity checks, and system turnover documentation as directed.
