About The Position

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is seeking an Animal Health Office Assistant. Our mission is to serve, advocate, protect and promote agriculture to benefit everyone. Requirements

  • Associate degree in Business Administration, Office Management, or a related field, with one year of experience providing administrative and clerical support relevant to the position; or High School diploma (or GED) with three years' experience providing administrative and clerical support relevant to the position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and Adobe.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and work in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid Class D driver's license for occasional travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Animal Science or Agribusiness.
  • Previous experience working in a veterinary office.
  • Familiarity with office procedures such as preparing reports, spreadsheets, filing, and handling certified or return-receipt mail.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with modified live vaccines and livestock medicine programs.
  • Managing Cervid programs and issuing status certificates.
  • Data entry of veterinary inspections, regulatory documents, and test results.
  • Issuing import permits for animal movement.
  • Facilitating Non-traditional Livestock (NTL) licensing and inventory reconciliation.
  • Issuing permits for the possession and propagation of protected wildlife.
  • Providing administrative and clerical support, including greeting clients, answering phone calls, and managing phone inquiries.
  • Typing, proofreading, and creating documents such as reports, educational materials, and forms.
  • Supporting the planning of division meetings and training.
  • Handling incoming/outgoing mail and providing accurate meeting minutes.
  • Occasionally assisting veterinarians or livestock investigators in fieldwork.
  • Required in-state travel; some overnight and weekend travel may be necessary.
