Who we are: Youth Music Project (YMP) is a band of inspired, engaged, and encouraging educators, musicians, administrators, board members, and volunteers who believe that every student deserves access to exceptional music education, regardless of family income level. YMP provides music instruction to thousands of children every year via year-round after-school group classes, private lessons, early childhood classes, field trips, partnerships, and summer camps. Over 30% of annual enrollments are made possible thanks to our donor-supported tuition assistance fund, providing access to hundreds of children and families each year who otherwise could not afford it. Position Summary This temporary position will coordinate and co-teach 14 weeklong, half-day music camps over 7 weeks during the summer of 2026 at a satellite location in partnership with Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation.

  • Advanced proficiency and literacy in one or more instruments offered at Youth Music Project (Guitar, Bass Guitar, Ukulele, Mandolin, Violin, Piano, Drums, Voice, Rock Bands). Proficiency with multiple instruments is preferred.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management
  • Experience teaching music to children and youth in group settings
  • The ability to problem solve, think quickly, and adjust lesson plans as needed
  • Positive outlook and collaborative disposition
  • Commitment to positive youth development practices
  • Proficient in creating proposals and schedules, communicating via email
  • Reliable transportation to and from the camp location in Lake Oswego and to the Youth Music Project in West Linn
  • Availability to work the full summer camp schedule
  • Punctuality – ability to be at work on-time and give adequate notice for any absences
  • Ability to promptly respond to work email/text correspondence
  • Must be at least 18 years old to apply and pass a criminal background check

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in music education, youth development, social service, or non-profit related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrates the tendency to contribute ideas and initiate new ways of working, shows enthusiasm for project work, and special assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Program Director to develop and execute off-site summer camp programming
  • Work with the Program Director to recruit and schedule camp staff
  • Plan and execute camp instructor orientation and training for June
  • Create materials for engaging music lessons and teach music lessons in half-day camps consisting of 10-12 students, aged between 5-12 years old.
  • Create supply/equipment lists, source and organize by camp
  • Collaborate with the Instrument Coordinator on camp gear needs
  • Serve as primary contact for camp instructors and LOPR site staff, provide timely schedule confirmations and reminders to camp staff
  • Collaborate with other camp instructors on teaching strategies and youth development best practices; co-teach music camps
  • Prepare students and classes for performances at the end of each camp.
  • Set student and classroom goals and map out the steps to succeed.
  • Interface with the LOPR Supervisor about camp location, site tours, and gear logistics
  • Collect and compile parent feedback for reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
