About The Position

The Office of the Chief Information Officer does not sponsor STEM or non-immigrant work visas for this position. The Nebraska Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is seeking motivated and curious interns to support a variety of information technology functions across the enterprise. We are looking for interns to fill roles such as Data Analyst, Database Administrator, Network Analyst, Cybersecurity Analyst, Application Developer, Content Manager, Accessibility Tester, Quality Assurance Tester and Project Coordinator. Intern job duties will be based on where candidates best fit based on skills, interests, and organizational needs. Interns may also rotate or assist in other areas to gain broad exposure to IT operations, helping them identify their strengths and areas of interest within the IT field. Interns may assist with data collection, analysis, reporting, and visualization to support business and technical decision-making; support database analysis activities including data validation, documentation, and basic maintenance; assist with network analysis tasks such as monitoring, troubleshooting, and documenting network components; support cybersecurity analysis efforts including reviewing security controls, assisting with risk assessments, and monitoring for potential security issues; coding in or testing an application; developing and/or updating content; and assist with project coordination activities such as tracking tasks, maintaining documentation, supporting schedules, and communicating status updates. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution) OR recently graduated (within one year) from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university (two-to-four-year institution).

Nice To Haves

  • Current enrollment in, or recent graduation from (within one year), an accredited college or university program related to Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Business, or a related field
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office or similar tools)
  • Coursework or experience related to data analysis, databases, networking, cybersecurity, application development or project management
  • Familiarity with tools such as SQL, Excel, Power BI, Python, networking concepts, programming languages or project management methodologies (e.g., Agile)
  • Prior internship, academic project, or relevant work experience
  • Basic understanding of information technology concepts
  • Interest in one or more IT disciplines such as data, networking, cybersecurity, application development, or project management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges

Responsibilities

  • Support data collection, analysis, reporting, and visualization efforts
  • Assist with database maintenance, documentation, and data quality activities
  • Support network monitoring, troubleshooting, and documentation
  • Assist with cybersecurity tasks such as risk assessments, policy review, and security monitoring
  • Assist with coding and/or testing in the full lifecycle of an application
  • Assist with developing and/or updating content
  • Support project coordination activities including scheduling, documentation, tracking deliverables, and stakeholder communication
  • Participate in team meetings, training, and knowledge-sharing activities
  • Perform other IT-related duties as assigned to support OCIO initiatives
