The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness, and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use. Department of Health Services (Housing for Health for Homelessness) is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Occupational Therapy Supervisor I (Housing for Health for Homelessness) vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. Before the end of your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Occupational Therapy Supervisor I (Housing for Health for Homelessness). Housing for Health (HFH) provides housing and supportive services to Department of Health Services (DHS) clients who are homeless and who have complex medical and/or behavioral health conditions. Since its inception, HFH has expanded to provide a continuum of housing and supportive services to unhoused county residents. HFH is now one of the two largest homeless housing and services entities in Los Angeles County.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE).
  • Three years of experience in the practice of occupational therapy.
  • Current license issued by the California Board of Occupational Therapy as an Occupational Therapist.
  • All required licenses and certifications must be active and unrestricted, or your application will not be accepted.
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
  • PHYSICAL CLASS III - Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages, and coordinates unit therapy programs with physicians, allied health personnel, teachers, families, and agencies.
  • Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of assigned staff, such as: assigns caseloads based on available staff and individual therapy needs of patients; reviews the quality and adequacy of therapy services provided by the therapy staff and implements corrective measures when necessary; evaluates employee performance and prepares performance evaluations; serves as a resource person to the therapy staff regarding unusual or difficult therapy problems by consulting with, demonstrating, or performing evaluation and treatment procedures.
  • Performs and supervises others' performance of complex treatment modalities, interventions, and techniques requiring special precautionary measures such as post-operative activities, manual stretching, positioning extremities with splints and braces designed to prevent or correct deformities, and special facilitation techniques to increase muscle strength and develop control and coordination.
  • Develops and modifies therapy treatment programs based upon review of patient records, results of therapy treatments, introduction of new medical and surgical procedures and review of professional literature.
  • Plans and conducts meetings with the therapy staff for the purpose of sharing and eliciting technical and administrative information, sharing in the resolution of problems and interpreting policies and procedures.
  • Supervises clinical training of students in the areas of patient assessment, evaluation, and treatment, and provides for staff development through in-service training, rotating assignments and making arrangements for attendance at special conferences, seminars, or college education courses.
