Coordinates all aspects of fieldwork placement (at Levels I and II) for Occupational Therapy MOT and COT, including, but not limited to, meeting with agencies to arrange placements, matching students with agencies/sites, visiting sites/students, counseling site supervisors and students when questions or problems occur, and insuring students have completed appropriate prerequisites before placement (for example, immunizations, CPR training) as well as ensuring students are registered for the appropriate class while on fieldwork assignments.

  • Establish, manage, and administer Level I and Level II fieldwork components for master of occupational therapy students, and perform duties that support the program's compliance with fieldwork requirements as outlined in the ACOTE standards C.1.0.
  • Establish new fieldwork sites.
  • Maintain and document regular contact with fieldwork sites.
  • Maintain partnerships with current sites.
  • Recruit new sites.
  • Ensure all sites are appropriate for meeting the objectives of the OT program.
  • Serve as a liaison between academic faculty and fieldwork educators.
  • Conduct fieldwork seminars for local practitioners, collect and contribute data required for program evaluation and participate in occupational therapy program meetings and activities.
  • Counsel and advise students in the Occupational Therapy program to assist with their preparation for joining the rehabilitation workforce.
  • Complete records and reports, including, but not limited to, collecting fieldwork evaluations and submitting grades to records and faculty in a timely manner, assessing outcomes and conducting program evaluations, progress reports, new site feasibility reports, and special reports as directed by the program director.
  • Travel to establish new fieldwork sites in various states as needed and maintain communication across sites and with the University.
  • All other duties will be completed from an on campus office.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission, philosophy, goals and priorities of the OT Program, School of Health Sciences and College of Health and Human Services at Eastern Michigan University.
  • Teaching and service expectations and responsibilities are related to the needs of the OT program.
  • Participate in meetings and conferences including, but not limited to, SHS faculty meetings, reviews of occupational therapy curriculum content, attempts to enlist new field agencies/facilities into the program, and reviews status of existing partnerships.
  • Serve as a liaison from the occupational therapy program to other EMU offices and departments.
  • Perform related duties, as required.
  • Registered occupational therapist, licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of Michigan is required.
  • Master's degree in Occupational Therapy awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized regional accrediting body is required.
  • Experience supervising students in fieldwork is required.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical practice with demonstrated knowledge of current occupational therapy practice is required
  • University level teaching experience in Occupational Therapy is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience in counseling and advising students is highly preferred.
