Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director and according to the established policies and procedures, plans and administers treatment and therapy programs designed to assist patients having various cognitive and physical disabilities to achieve their highest level of functional independence. Also responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital. In accordance with the mission of the Tampa General Hospital Occupational Therapy Fellowship Program which is to provide practicing occupational therapists an advanced level of clinical training that will enable the fellows to take a leadership role in the treatment of individuals with functional and cognitive limitations associated with their activities of daily living. The fellows will promote evidence-based practice and advanced clinical reasoning in the treatment of clients with various disabling diagnosis like Stroke, Spinal Cord Injury, Brain Injury, deficits due to primary cardiac, neurological and / or orthopedic related medical conditions and more. The care provided will reflect a patient centered approach. Our fellows will apply the advanced skills in the field of Occupational Therapy across the continuum of care and lifespan of patients with functional and cognitive deficits. The fellows will have weekly mentoring by an experienced clinician, participate in didactic learning experiences, as well as complete additional learning opportunities through live patient exams and evidence-based projects. Demonstrates the ability to evaluate patients, plan care, provide treatment, assess progress, adjust goals & treatment plans and make discharge recommendations, as per the guidelines outlined by the American Occupational Therapy Association, which mandates consideration to the age and developmental level of the patients. Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise required in the care of patients. Fellows must successfully meet and complete the annual requirements outlined in the Occupational Therapy Fellowship Program. (see related documentation in OT Fellowship program guidelines). Plans, provides and maintains a safe environment for patients, staff and families. Responds to new evaluations within the specific time frame stated in the Policies and Procedures of the various areas of work. All patient care goals are measurable and have a time frame for their attainment Provides accurate, timely and consistent documentation of patient care, patient/family education and response to care in the medical record. Remains alert to changes in the patient's condition and the work environment and responds appropriately; updates nursing or ancillary staff as necessary.
