About The Position

Help people regain confidence in the moments that matter most. As a COTA, you’ll deliver engaging individual and group therapy to strengthen daily living skills, improve mobility, and support cognitive function. You’ll also provide compensatory strategies for lasting functional changes and educate caregivers to extend care beyond each session, making a meaningful and lasting impact on quality of life.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Valid state licensure as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the state of Michigan
  • Current certification as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT)
  • Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain as offered by LifeCircles
  • Must possess a valid and current driver’s license
  • Position requires the ability to lift and move objects weighting up to 35 pounds without assistance
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in an OT setting, preferably with geriatric or long-term care populations, preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) facility, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the treatment, and implementation of participant care in accordance with state practice acts.
  • Support participants in maximizing their potential in activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) under the direction of the Occupational Therapist (OT).
  • Provide training and education to caregivers and family members related to the treatment plan.
  • Will be required to provide treatment/intervention to participants in the community.
  • Support restorative programming as indicated by OT and per department needs.
  • Participate in development and implementation of movement challenges, groups, education, and activities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure effective care delivery and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Communicates effectively with therapy department for coordination of participant care and coverage.
  • Use appropriate safety measures when providing care and performing duties.
  • Accurately document and chart participant treatment, recording changes or concerns.
  • Assist with set up and adjustment of Durable Medical Equipment, ensuring good working order.
  • Apply knowledge of age-specific competencies and cultural diversity in the provision of care.
  • Supports participant autonomy and dignity with a sensitivity to individualized needs.
  • Engage in self-directed learning to remain current with therapeutic interventions and skills applicable to this setting.
