About The Position

The Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) supports the Occupational Therapists by providing treatments and procedures to students who have been determined to require occupational therapy as a related service in the school environment. The OT Assistant may also do routine tasks, such as preparing treatment rooms, under the direction of Occupational Therapists.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree from an accredited occupational therapy program required.
  • A state license is necessary in most states.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, compassion, patience, adaptability, and attention to detail
  • Ability to operate computer
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
  • Ability to work in a high traffic, indoor environment.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guide students in therapeutic activities, such as exercises to improve motor skills and functional abilities.
  • Lead children who have disabilities in play activities that promote coordination, socialization, and meeting developmental milestones.
  • Teach students new ways of accomplishing everyday tasks.
  • Instruct students in the use of special equipment—for example, showing a student how to use adaptive devices to simplify meal preparation.
  • Record student progress, report to occupational therapists, and other administrative tasks.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
