Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for Adjunct Faculty for our Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program in the School of Health Professions. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Virginia Western Community College, currently in the candidacy stage of accreditation and is seeking adjunct faculty to assist with delivering face-to-face curricular content to OTA students. The program admitted its first class in Fall 2025 with adjunct positions starting in the Summer semester of 2026. Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course-by-course, semester basis as needed. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching discipline and in trends in community college education. Applications will be received and considered on a continuous basis. Review of applications will begin when a need arises and will continue until needed positions are filled.

  • Deliver face-to-face curricular content to OTA students.
  • Maintain currency in teaching discipline and trends in community college education.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in student advisement and demonstrate knowledge of resources for student well-being.
  • Must be a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) with current Virginia OT or OTA license or eligible for licensure in the state of Virginia.
  • License needs to be active, unrestricted, and the applicant should be in good standing with the Virginia Board of Medicine.
  • Demonstrate contemporary expertise in assigned subject areas.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Availability to teach during typical business hours.
  • Prior teaching experience in an occupational therapy assistant/occupational therapy academic program.
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and application of principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice concepts.
  • Experience using technology in the classroom.
  • Experience teaching in a college setting.
  • Three years post-licensure clinical experience.
  • Part-time position with flexible scheduling based on course offerings and enrollment.
