About The Position

MUSC Health - Orangeburg is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join our dynamic team, focusing on inpatient rehab with the potential to also assist with acute rehab and/or outpatient rehab. In addition to traditional COTA duties, your role may involve aiding in data collection, documentation support to evaluating OT's, conducting mobility screens, and providing mobility support for patients. As a COTA, you will work under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist (OT) to deliver high-quality therapy services and ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records.

Requirements

  • Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
  • State licensure as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying patient needs and treatment settings.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Occupational Therapist to provide direct patient care in accordance with the prescribed treatment plan and goals.
  • Work in inpatient rehab setting to address patients' needs and facilitate their recovery and functional independence.
  • Assist in gathering relevant patient information, documenting progress, and maintaining organized records to support treatment planning and decision-making.
  • Conduct mobility screenings to assess patients' physical capabilities and identify areas that require focused intervention.
  • Provide mobility support and training to patients, including assistance with transferring, walking, and using mobility aids.
  • Accurately transcribe evaluations conducted by the Occupational Therapist, ensuring completeness and precision in the documentation.
  • Interact with patients in a compassionate and empathetic manner, fostering a positive therapeutic environment.
  • Ensure proper setup and maintenance of therapy equipment and treatment areas.
  • Educate patients and their families on appropriate therapeutic activities and exercises.
  • Foster a collaborative and team-oriented approach, working closely with other healthcare providers.
  • Adhere to all legal and ethical standards, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Engage in continuous learning and professional development activities.
  • Other duties as assigned to include periodic weekend and holiday support.
