About The Position

Overview The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for all aspects of occupational therapy service delivery and is accountable for safety and effectiveness of the occupational therapy service delivery process. Occupational Therapy services can be provided for habilitation, rehabilitation and promotion of health and wellness for clients with disabilities and non-disability related needs. Services promote acquisition and preservation of occupational identity for those who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation or participation restriction. The OT will work with their client/family/caregivers to promote client participation in their everyday life occupations, specific to their age, context and life situation. The Occupational Therapist will use their knowledge and skills, including therapeutic use of self, to help clients conduct or resume daily life occupations that support function and health throughout the lifespan. The focus is on occupations that are meaningful to the client involving emotional, psychosocial, cognitive and physical aspects of performance in occupation. The Occupational Therapist is responsible to practice in accordance with the scope of the profession, the State Practice Act, Licensure and policies of UnityPoint Health. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for accurate documentation and billing as well as maintaining communication with referring providers, the care team and teammates, as ethically appropriate, to develop and implement a comprehensive plan of care best suited for the environment in which care is provided. Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited program in respective field.
  • Experience in pediatrics required.
  • Current Iowa license as an OT.
  • Current BLS (CPR).
  • Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates individuals who have medical problems or other health related conditions that limit their abilities to perform functional activities in their daily lives.
  • Develops, implements and delegates treatment plan with individualized goals to promote the ability to perform ADLs and IADLs, restore function and prevent disability.
  • Monitors response of persons served during therapeutic interventions.
  • Supports evidence - based practices.
  • Communicates and collaborates the plan of treatment with persons served, families and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintains flexibility to work in multiple care settings as needed.
  • Displays creativity and innovation in the delivery of services.
  • Timely and accurate documentation and billing according to regulatory and third-party requirements.
  • Documentation and billing for services exhibit an understanding of requirements and ethical practice.
  • Manages resources to maintain efficient and effective operations.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and maximize patient experience.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and personal growth in daily actions.
  • Promotes professional rehabilitation objectives among interdisciplinary team members.
  • Consistently utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area).
  • Participates in process improvement for enhancement of care delivery and clinical excellence.
  • Fosters professional relationships that offer opportunities for enhanced patient access and care delivery.
  • Exhibits flexibility with assignments including hours of operation and weekend availability to meet business and customer needs.
  • Exhibits willingness to accept and learn new skills.
