Job Description: Primary Responsibilities Evaluates referred patients for age appropriate behavior, motor skills and physiological norms accurately using appropriate tests, measurements, and history. Develops comprehensive treatment plans in conjunction with the patient and/or family and physician which is based on the evaluation results and includes the frequency and duration of treatment, long- and short-term goals, and expected functional outcomes. Administers age and condition appropriate therapeutic techniques accurately and continuously monitors the patient's response to treatment, modifying the program as needed. Assists in orientation, training, and supervision of support staff, aides, students, and volunteers assigned to participate in patient care or departmental projects. Documents patient care accurately and in a timely way in the medical record and as needed to facilitate continued care or billing. Confers with the patient and/or family, referring physician, staff, vendors, or other facilities to facilitate or coordinate care, obtain patient equipment, or assist with discharge planning. Adapts communication techniques to age related needs of the patient (hearing/vision/cognitive abilities). Maintains and enhances professional knowledge and skills through participation in continuing education programs, professional organizations, and/or review of professional literature. Participates in departmental meetings, projects, and ongoing performance improvement activities. Participates in in-services, rounds, orientations, and committees within the hospital and/or the community to advance understanding of Occupational Therapy services and contribute to patient care and employee safety. Assists in ordering and maintaining occupational therapy supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree or entry level Master's degree in occupational therapy.
  • Current licensure to practice occupational therapy from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience as an occupational therapist
  • Good oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Strong organization and time management skills to independently manage patient care load.
