About The Position

Family Health Centers of San Diego is looking for an Occupational Therapist to facilitate development and rehabilitation of PACE participants with mental, emotional, and physical disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy. Responsible for providing a comprehensive occupational therapy program to restore physical functioning, enhance emotional and social well-being, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy; Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy preferred.
  • Current California state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Current American Heart Association healthcare provider CPR (BLS), or Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, or Advance Resuscitation Training.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with the older adult population.
  • Clinical competency with the older adult population preferred.
  • Knowledge of appropriate and updated therapy equipment and technology to include aerobic and strength conditioning equipment tailored to the older adult population and use of mechanical assist devices.
  • Traveling between sites and other locations is required as an essential function of the job.
  • Must have a car, a valid California driver’s license, and proof of minimum levels of car insurance as required under California law, although limits of $100,000 are recommended.
  • An acceptable driving record is also required.
  • California law requires all drivers to obtain a valid California driver’s license within ten days of establishing residency.
  • Mileage and other reimbursement governed by policy.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of occupational therapy treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, enhance emotional and social well-being.
  • Evaluate effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit and to meet the participant’s goals and needs.
  • Assist PACE participant develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities by implementing programs involving manual arts and crafts, practice in functional prevocational, or vocational and homemaking skills, activities of daily living, and sensorimotor, education, recreational, and social activities.
  • Design home exercise programs, to include recommending and/or providing assistive device, instructing patients, families, and caregivers on in-home exercise programs.
  • May oversee staff that assist in the care of the PACE participant.
  • Provide information to the participant about proposed intervention, its material risks and expected benefits and any reasonable alternatives.
  • Collect participant data and complete required forms to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • As an active and cooperative member of the interdisciplinary team, attend meetings and actively participate in the care planning of the PACE participant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
