About The Position

FirstLight Home Care Occupational Therapist Utilizes patient-focused evaluations to create a plan in collaboration with the patient and physician to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of the patient with physical, mental or developmental conditions. The Occupational Therapist role is to offer effective client-centered services that will enable people to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks or activities.

Requirements

  • Possess up-to-date knowledge of evidenced based treatment practices and occupational therapy programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to treat all clients
  • Comfortable using a computer for various tasks.
  • Ability to assess patient conditions and work with treatment plans.
  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program or American Occupational Therapist Association Certification
  • A OTD degree in occupational therapy from a university certified by the ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education) or AOTA (American -Occupational Therapy Association) or be grandfathered per ACOTE/AOTA.
  • Certified by the National Board for Certification.
  • Compliant with state healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Licensure by State
  • Minimum of 2 years of Occupational Therapy with patients in an home care/outpatient environment
  • Current driver’s license and automobile liability insurance
  • CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Conducting physical and psychological evaluations of patients and developing and implementing a treatment plan.
  • Evaluating home environments of patients and educating patient’s on adjustments that need to be made.
  • Advising on adaptive equipment to help patients complete daily activities.
  • Developing physical rehabilitation programs to help patients regain lost skills.
  • Preparing patients for a return to work.
  • Educating caregivers and family members of patients on patient care.
  • Evaluating client results and progress of occupational therapy goals.
  • Maintaining required professional continuing education in order to provide clients with the best treatment program available.
  • Complying with federal, state, and local certification requirements.
  • Evaluating patient condition regarding physical and basic mental health.
  • Address patient’s aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
  • Select and adapt the appropriate patient-centered occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to provide appropriate interventions
  • Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use
  • Guide and educate family members and caregivers
