About The Position

Summary: Responsible for providing school-based occupational therapy services, a special education related service, in compliance with corporation policy, as well as state and federal special education regulations. Responsible for functioning as a related services team member in the school setting. Must have or be able to obtain the Indiana License for Occupational Therapist.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students suspected of having a deficit in fine motor, self-help, sensory or perceptual motor skills using appropriate assessment instruments specifically designed for assessing these areas.
  • Write a detailed evaluation report of the findings from an assessment of a student's fine motor, self-help, sensory or perceptual motor skills.
  • Provide direct occupational therapy to special education students whose fine motor, self-help, sensory or perceptual motor impairments are deterring success in their special education program as indicated in their IEP. Some services will be delivered in a push in model while other services may be delivered in a pull out model.
  • Provide consultation occupational therapy services to special education students with the frequency and duration determined in the IEP, including following up after a change in programming has been made for a student. This may include conferring with the general education teacher and/or support staff to address the educational needs of the student as it relates to their fine motor, self-help, sensory, or perceptual motor skills.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and/or other school based team members concerning fine motor, sensory, perceptual motor or self-help skill development.
  • Develop and maintain schedule at each assigned building that meets the required OT minutes for each student, provide a copy of the schedule to the Director of Exceptional Education, and each principal.
  • Distribute schedule among schools and teachers of students served and inform them of schedule changes and OT absences.
  • Complete the present level of performance statements, goals, recommended accommodations and related service provision in IIEP for each student receiving services.
  • Consult with TORs concerning goal development and attend those case conferences that require the OT's participation.
  • Maintain documentation of direct therapy sessions or consultations for students who receive OT services per the IEP.
  • Complete progress reports for goals specific to OT therapy services based on the progress report schedule in the IEP.
  • Complete required documentation and submission of Medicaid billing through the school corporation's Medicaid billing provider.
  • Participate in RTI meeting when requested to address a general education student's weaknesses in fine motor, self-help, sensory or perceptual motor skills.
  • Maintain an Indiana OT license and follow IPLA requirements for participation in approved continuing education activities.
  • Attend required OT staff meetings
