About The Position

Occupational Therapists plan and execute rehabilitation programs to help patients improve, regain, and develop the skills needed for day to day life and work. Occupational Therapists utilize a variety of skills including, but not limited to therapeutic activities, neuromuscular re-education, fabricating/issuing splints, adaptive equipment recommendations, therapeutic exercise, manual techniques and physical modalities. They develop custom programs aimed at improving activities of daily living. Therapists demonstrate effective communication and strong interpersonal skills to motivate patients and provide compassionate care.

Requirements

  • MS (Required)
  • BLS or CPR certification within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses home and work environments of clients and identifying potential improvements based on their needs.
  • Assists other facility staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly and effective environment for rehabilitation and physical therapy.
  • Develop a plan for patients following completion of their Plan of Care with appropriate home exercise program, discharge instructions.
  • Develops Plan of Care for each patient based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short and long term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required patient and caregiver involvement.
  • Develops rehabilitation programs to help clients regain lost skills.
  • Document patient progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.
  • Evaluate range of motion, strength and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
  • Implements Plan of Care on a consistent schedule and adjusts this schedule and plan according to patient progress.
  • Maintain open lines of effective communication between therapy staff, department staff and referral sources involved in the care of the patient.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, etc.
  • Maintains patient records ensuring that Certifications and Authorizations are in compliance with third party payer requirements.
  • Perform initial and ongoing occupational therapy evaluations according to AOTA standards of practice as well as state standards.
  • Recommends and educates patients on how to use adaptive equipment to help clients with daily activities
  • Strong experience administering a wide range of occupational therapy techniques
  • Supervise occupational therapy assistants as indicated in a professional and consistent manner.
