SUMMARY The Occupational Therapy Assistant implements an individual patient therapy care plan that has been prepared by the Occupational Therapist and is supervised by the Occupational Therapist. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Identifies possible ineffective drug therapy or adverse reactions, significant side effects, drug allergies, and contra-indicated medication and reports to supervisor. Advises and consults with family to potential for achievement of optimum potential of client. Observes and records activities and findings in the clinical record and reporting to the physician the client's reaction to treatment and any changes in the client's condition. Communicates effectively with all those providing care. Guides and instructs the client in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities that are directed toward improving independence and physical and mental functioning. Instructs client in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic and orthotic devices. Assists in teaching exercise programs to patient and family. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position has no supervisory responsibilities. QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE) Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Communicate effectively in English (the primary language of the residents) Work well in a team or alone Organized and flexible Computer proficient Must have at least 2 years’ Occupational Therapy Assistant experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Registered Occupational Therapy Assistant in the State of Florida CPR certification This position requires a background screening through the Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
