About The Position

This Occupational Therapist position is non-continuing and temporary, beginning at the start of the 2026-2027 school year and ending approximately on 11/13/2026. Under general supervision, the therapist evaluates students to determine goals and the best course of occupational therapy to meet individual needs, and monitors and documents individual education program (IEP) progress and results, making adjustments as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field; AND one (1) year of experience in a public school or related setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation.
  • Applicable Federal, State, and local ordinances, statute, rules, and codes.
  • Record keeping and file maintenance principles and procedures.
  • Current trends in occupational therapy, instruction, and assessment.
  • Special education laws and regulations.
  • Skill in: Operating a personal computer including standard software and some specializes accounting software.
  • Skill in: Following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
  • Skill in: Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Skill in: Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in: Preparing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Skill in: Planning and managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
  • Skill in: Maintaining confidentiality of student records and personal information.
  • Skill in: Assisting children and special needs students.
  • Skill in: Assessing educational needs.
  • Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist through the North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice.
  • A valid North Dakota State Driver’s License may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates student ability and formulate an occupational profile through functional, behavioral, and standardized assessments in addition to skilled observations, histories, and interviews.
  • Organizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report; participates in team meetings to review results, share recommendations, and develop individual education plans and interventions to achieve goals.
  • Provides targeted, education-based, therapeutic interventions to facilitate student participation and occupational performance within the school environment.
  • Adapts and modifies the educational environment and the use of assistive technology; trains instructional staff to meet individual needs and help students function as independently as possible.
  • Monitors and reassess the effects of occupational therapy interventions.
  • Documents therapy services to ensure accountability of service provision, and meet standards for reimbursement.
  • Manages therapeutic equipment and assessment inventories.
  • Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, State guidelines, and school policies.
  • Reviews services for quality improvement opportunities; makes changes as needed to ensure a high quality of service.
  • Provides continuing education and in-services for educational personnel, community agencies, parents, and community based service providers.
  • Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.
