The Occupational Therapist provides treatment to patients to facilitate development and rehabilitation of physically, cognitively, or emotionally disabled persons for the purpose of restoring and enhancing functional independence. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

  • Interpretation and implementation of referrals; evaluates patient functional status and therapeutic needs through standardized assessment and testing.
  • Establish functional baseline to be used throughout treatment as a gauge of progress and optimal functional independence.
  • Establish education and treatment planning.
  • Conduct family and community education.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary discussion/rounds.
  • Set patient care goals and estimate length of treatment.
  • Develop programs and participate in department process improvement.
  • Serve as a resource person in areas of expertise.
  • Provide inservices in areas of expertise for the Bronson Rehabilitation System.
  • Deliver direct patient care according to the treatment plan; facilitate and instruct patients in the skills necessary to successfully participate.
  • Design and fabricate splints and other assistive devices.
  • Cross-train to other departments within Rehabilitation Services as needed.
  • Document evaluations, patient treatment plans, treatments performed, and progress.
  • Maintain accurate, legible and complete records for each person served.
  • Communicate to leadership any limitations that prevent timely documentation.
  • Serve on committees and task forces.
  • Participate in process improvement.
  • Demonstrate time management skills.
  • Supervise COTA, Rehab Clinical Assistant, OT students, COTA students and volunteers, athletic trainer.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • Clinical Experience preferred.
  • Current Occupational Therapy license in good standing with the State of Michigan.
  • BLS Certification required within 3 months of employment.
  • Keyboarding skills to operate a PC/mobile device.
  • Ability to work as a team member and effectively communicate with patients, visitors, and all members of the care delivery team.
  • Social sensitivity and the ability to communicate in English effectively.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to deal with delicate patient care matters.
  • Ability to perform work requiring mental/visual focus typical of jobs with frequent and significant deadlines.
  • Ability to regularly lift bulky or moderately heavy weights (up to 50 pounds).
