About The Position
To enable the disabled student to use his/her body more adequately and gain optimal benefit from the educational program
Requirements
- Certification as prescribed by the State Department of Education
- Licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners for Occupational Therapy or State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners
Responsibilities
- To screen and evaluate students for occupational therapy/physical therapy
- To serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team when evaluating a student
- To provide direct and indirect services to students according to established procedures
- To provide consultant service to teachers, other professional personnel, and community Agencies
- To review, select, and evaluate materials and activities for Special Education children involved in motor skills
- To maintain appropriate records
- To participate as a team member in the student’s IEP (Individualized Education Program)
- To facilitate communication between the home and the school as it relates to occupational therapy/physical therapy issues that would impact the child’s functioning in the educational setting
- To assist in the securing of yearly physician orders for eligible students
- To maintain inventory of occupational therapy/physical therapy equipment
- To perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education
