About The Position

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an occupational therapy curriculum accredited by ACOTE standards.
  • Initial registration from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
  • Valid and unencumbered occupational therapy license as required in the state of practice.
  • Current CPR Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide developmentally and educationally based intervention to improve safety and independence.
  • Input data into secure, computerized systems for reports and billing.
  • Implement treatment plans and programs through consistent daily and weekly schedules focusing on functional and measurable outcomes.
  • Initiate new program development with a focus on needed functional outcomes.
  • Deliver specialized individual and group occupational therapy instruction as mandated in students’ Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Collect data and complete reports regarding the student’s goals and progress.
  • Consult with other professionals on the student's treatment team to ensure cohesive therapy.
  • Assess and document each student’s progress through formal and informal tests and measurements.
  • Write and prepare annual review reports and goals for each student in accordance with IEP requirements.
  • Provide occupational therapy expertise when developing FBAs/BIPs.
  • Provide parent and caregiver support and education regarding the student’s progress.
  • Attend all school-related meetings as scheduled.
  • Ensure a suitable learning environment by preparing materials and supplies.
  • Provide screenings and evaluations to determine requirements for skilled occupational therapy intervention.
  • Supervise COTA(s) in accordance with state practice act guidelines.
  • Communicate with schools and families to request appropriate physician signatures/orders for therapy referrals.
  • Follow safety guidelines for functional mobility and orientation.
  • Utilize communication devices and assistive technology as outlined by the Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Follow fire drill or safety guidelines outlined by the school.
  • Complete documentation to maintain quality of therapy records.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in training programs for students, school staff, and families.
  • Participate in school trainings, in-services, and professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
