About The Position

The Occupational Therapist evaluates new patients, sets objective measurable goals for functional outcomes, establishes appropriate treatment programs, and provides documentation of the same. The role involves administering diagnostic testing procedures to determine the extent of the patient's impairment and the prognosis for improvement. The therapist performs treatment procedures, fabricates adaptive equipment/splints, and adapts therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regime of therapeutic exercises. They re-evaluate patients and modify treatment plans based on patient progress. Effective communication with medical and allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning is essential. The therapist also provides instruction in therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient and family, maintains Occupational Therapy equipment and inventory of supplies, and completes purchase orders for manager approval. Additionally, they provide guidance and direction to Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, Aides, and affiliating students, maintain departmental policies and procedures, and participate in clinical instruction of Occupational Therapy students as requested. The therapist is expected to enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops, while maintaining a daily statistical record of patient activity and charges.
