The Occupational Therapist position at Ephrata Community Hospital involves providing occupational therapy services to individual patients at an entry to intermediate skills level. The role requires the therapist to evaluate patients using evidence-based techniques and to develop individualized therapy programs that incorporate a variety of activities tailored to the patient's physical capacity, intelligence level, and personal goals. The therapist will direct patient participation in selected tasks aimed at restoring, reinforcing, and enhancing their performance, while also facilitating the learning of essential skills for adaptation and productivity. In this role, the Occupational Therapist will collaborate with other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate therapy activities and ensure that established goals are met. The therapist will also be responsible for training medical and nursing personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives, ensuring that safe patient handling techniques are utilized during transfers and positioning. Supervision of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and Rehabilitation Aides will be required as per Pennsylvania practice regulations. The position emphasizes the importance of understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, allowing the therapist to provide age-appropriate treatment. Accurate documentation of patient records is essential to support medical necessity and functional abilities. The Occupational Therapist will also be expected to adhere to established policies and procedures, maintain quality management standards, and contribute to a culture of patient-centered care and clinical excellence. Continuous professional development through educational programs and workshops is encouraged, and the therapist will act as a role model in compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
