About The Position

Rockville Rehabilitation seeks to hire an Occupational Therapist (OT) or a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant for our Inpatient Rehabilitation Department who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. As an Occupational Therapist you will: Performs an initial examination and evaluation to establish an impairment/diagnosis, prognosis and plan of care prior to intervention for all persons served with basic and some complex rehabilitation needs in acute care, outpatient or inpatient rehabilitation settings (flexes to any Rehab site as needed). Provides, or directs and supervises, the therapy intervention consistent with the results of the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care. The therapist involves the patient/client and appropriate others in the planning, implementation, and assessment of the plan of care. Reexamines the patient/client as necessary during an episode of care to evaluate progress or change in patient/client status and modifies the plan of care accordingly or discontinues occupational therapy services. The occupational therapist, in consultation with appropriate disciplines, plans for discharge of the patient/client taking into consideration achievement of anticipated goals and expected outcomes, and provides for appropriate follow-up or referral. The occupational therapist discontinues intervention when the patient/client is unable to continue to progress toward goals or when the occupational therapist determines that the patient/client will no longer benefit from therapy (in coordination with referring provider/team where indicated). Communicates, coordinates and documents all aspects of patient/client management including the results of the initial examination and evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, plan of care, interventions, response to interventions, barriers to progress, changes in patient/client status relative to the interventions, reexamination, and discharge/discontinuation of intervention and other patient/client management activities with members of the care team as indicated. Supervises and directs the patient care activities of assigned rehab aides, office assistants and volunteers. Manages schedule to accommodate range in census and patient load and informs management of any issues with caseload management. Attends team meetings and effectively communicates patient status, using, if needed, the medical record or other treating therapists to ensure sufficient knowledge of the case. Responsible for individual and assigned hospital performance improvement and professional development activities. Educates and provides consultation to consumers, healthcare professionals and the public regarding the purposes and benefits of therapy. Mentors and supports students during their clinical practices, in patient-centered care. As a COTA you will: Assist in providing rehabilitation services for the patients suffering from physical, mental, development problems either congenital or accidental, surgery, etc. Monitor the patients and understand their health issues and requirements and make sure that they are provided necessary support. Help patients in working through the rehabilitative exercises and treatments as suggested by the occupational therapists. Feed the patients, dress them, change their beddings and help maintain hygiene. Maintain and order equipment’s used in the process of treatment and give regular progress report to the doctors. Document the progress report of the patients and make necessary changes in the treatment process as suggested by the doctor.

Requirements

Bachelors, Masters, or Doctorate in Occupational therapy from accredited occupational therapy program or from an educationally equivalent international program
Minimum 2 years’ experience (at least 1 year in setting preferred)
Active Maryland License, AHA HCP CPR
High School Diploma or GED required
Associate’s degree from accredited COTA program required
Site specific experience preferred (minimum of 1 site specific clinical affiliation required)
Licensed in the State of Maryland
BLS certification
CPR issued by American Heart Association

Responsibilities
