The Occupational Therapist, Clinical Specialist provides occupational therapy services by evaluating patients, establishing and implementing effective treatment plans with functional treatment goals, providing patient education and exercise/activity programs, constructing appropriate orthotic devices and educating in use of adaptive equipment. Position is responsible for observing, evaluating and documenting the results of treatment interventions and modifying age-appropriate treatment plan accordingly. The Clinical Specialist is responsible for identifying strengths and weaknesses and facilitating clinical excellence of staff therapists and assistants through education, coaching, mentoring, and process development. In coordination with department leadership, therapists in this role provide input into departmental staff development, program development, standards of professional practice, and clinical competence. The primary setting for this position is the Rehab Hospital on the Raleigh campus and may be required to cover other areas of the WakeMed Rehab continuum as needed. Populations served include stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, other neurological issues as well as post-surgical orthopedics, multi-trauma and debility for both adult and pediatric populations.
