This position is grant funded. The Occupational Therapist (OT) serves as an integral member of a multidisciplinary team that cares for people with substance use disorder (SUD) in an outpatient treatment setting. Under general supervision, the OT assists patients to restore or improve their physical abilities, to promote behavioral change, adapt to their surroundings, and learn new skills. This position will act in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations and occupational therapy standards of care. OT interventions will be designed to facilitate engagement in the recovery process and to increase participation in meaningful daily activities that support physical and mental wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Valid license and current registration to practice as an Occupational Therapist issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED).

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the evaluation of the patient's needs and performance of activities of daily living.
  • May administer Range of Motion tests.
  • Instructs assigned patients in activities of daily living, such as washing, dressing, eating and handling of such assistive devices, such as braces and wheelchairs.
  • Instructs patients on and assists patients in carrying out therapeutic activities and exercises to improve their physical and mental well-being.
  • Assists in setting up programs for the patient's caregivers in the home setting.
  • May provide teaching, guidance and direction to health professionals on the proper standards of occupational therapy practice.
  • Maintains equipment and requisitions supplies.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
