About The Position

The Occupational Therapist Assistant provides occupational therapy services under the plan of care established by a licensed Occupational Therapist. Completes documentation and submits charges to support treatment while complying with laws and regulations of appropriate state and federal agencies and Joint Commission guidelines.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant from an NBCOT approved program
  • BLS South Carolina Occupational Therapy Assistant License-Active required for team members working in SC
  • TN COTA required for team members working in Tennessee
  • Demonstrates clinical competency based on patient's age
  • Effective at data conversion

Responsibilities

  • Implements treatment plan
  • Follows plan of care established by supervising Occupational Therapist
  • Assesses patient response to treatment and modifies treatment as needed
  • Demonstrates proficiency and competency in clinical care in primary work area
  • Reports changes in patient status to team members as appropriate
  • Communicates patient status with clinical staff
  • Documents all aspects of treatment in compliance with chart review audit components
  • Participates in team meetings and provides the necessary patient information
  • Participates in patient/family education regarding progress and home programs as needed
  • Utilizes appropriate abbreviations and medical terminology
  • Participates in discharge planning of patients including provision of documentation supporting any additional discharge needs
  • Attends staff meetings, team meetings, and mandatory in-services as scheduled
  • Completes assignments in a timely and thorough manner
  • Assists with care and maintenance of departmental equipment and supplies
  • Completes charge/productivity documentation and enters information and charges in an accurate and timely manner
  • Demonstrates willingness to assist and is respectful of the rights of other team members
  • Complies with department policies and procedures
  • Consistently demonstrates behaviors that purpose statement of the department and Prisma Health and demonstrates good judgement in the selecting the proper mode of communication which conveys a favorable image of the therapy department and Prisma Health
  • Assumes any additional team/department responsibilities as assigned by department leadership
  • Meets the team/department productivity standards
  • Complies with the established standards of efficient scheduling to maintain appropriate levels of productivity
  • Achieves annual goals
  • Establishes annual goals related to competency, sustainability, advocacy and specialization with supervisor
  • Provides supporting information related to the progress made toward achieving established annual goals
  • Actively supports corporate leadership initiatives
  • Conscientiously seeks consultation or supervision
  • Provides oversight to therapy aides, students and volunteers
  • Functions as mentor to new staff and supervises new graduates
  • Participates in program development as requested by supervisor
  • Assists in developing procedures to execute programs effectively
  • Maintains program and identifies changes as needed in order to remain successful
  • Performs other duties as assigned
