The Occupational Therapist in Acute Care will assess clients/patients/residents and design occupational therapy treatments to help them develop, maintain, and recover their ability to perform tasks in their daily lives. The therapist will conduct evaluations and provide interventions for clients/patients/residents who have functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments. This position involves working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment with opportunities to rotate to various units and work with a wide variety of patient diagnoses, including pulmonary, surgical/trauma, cardiology, renal, ortho, neuro, oncology, general medical, and ICU. Requirements

  • Must be licensed in the state(s) of practice as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Appropriate education level required in accordance with state licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers required or within the first 60 days of employment.
  • New graduates in the process of testing with the board will be considered with a temporary license.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification through the National Board of Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients/patients/residents and design occupational therapy treatments.
  • Conduct evaluations and provide interventions for clients/patients/residents with functional, cognitive, or behavioral impairments.
  • Evaluate physical, cognitive, developmental, and psychosocial abilities of clients/patients/residents.
  • Develop realistic therapy goals and administer appropriate occupational therapy programs.
  • Document client's/patient's/resident's information for evaluation and establish therapeutic plans.
  • Provide education to clients/patients/residents to enhance understanding and improve functional outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and incorporate knowledge of current research into daily treatment.
  • Supervise assistants, aides, and students in providing patient/resident care.
  • Participate in activities to promote the department and Sanford Health.
  • Provide ongoing education and training to peers in areas of expertise.
