About The Position

The Obstetrics and Gynecology physician provides health assessment and direct care to obstetrics and gynecology patients as part of the provider team providing services to St. Joseph Health's (SJH) patients. The position involves working 12-hour shifts and includes various responsibilities related to inpatient care, consultations, and surgical assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Care for unassigned inpatient OB and GYN patients
  • Provide triage and/or OB ED services
  • Provide GYN consultations for hospitalized patients and the Emergency Department
  • Oversee residents, fellows, midwives or advanced practice nurses
  • Provide call coverage and L&D support: interpretation of EFM strips, stand-by for deliveries, perform delivery and monitoring of laboring patients for private OBs
  • Serve as MFM extenders
  • Surgically assist for other OBs or gynecologists
  • Provide general primary obstetric and gynecological care using generally accepted standards of practice
  • Develop a plan of care for each patient, including complete history, physical examination, diagnosis, appropriate treatment and/or referral
  • Hospitalize any patient requiring in-patient care
  • Provide obstetric and gynecological care according to accepted ACOG standards during hospitalization
  • Confer with consulting physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, support staff, patients, and families concerning treatment and care of patients
  • Make appropriate specialty and sub-specialty referrals while maintaining responsibility for continuing care
  • Perform general gynecological and obstetric surgical procedures, both diagnostic and therapeutic, using both minimally invasive and traditional surgical techniques
  • Enter into Collaborative agreements with SJH midlevel providers including midwives
  • Participate in health promotion/disease prevention activities
  • Stress the importance of preventive health care measures
  • Support mid-level providers in supervision and consultation
  • Participate in quality improvement/assurance activities
  • Attend and participate in SJH activities as requested
  • Attend mandatory in-services and Employer meetings
  • Complete records in adequate professional detail, and in a timely manner using electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Maintain and acquire knowledge and skills to perform required duties to meet all hospital, state, organizational and licensure requirements
  • Abide by the Employer Obstetrics Department protocols and guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chairman, and/or Vice President of Physician Services
