About The Position

The OB Surgical Technician - Weekend Option maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions throughout the surgical procedure. This position is responsible for maintaining knowledge of cesarean procedures and implements policies of the hospital. Works alongside the Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a surgeon to facilitate safe and effective care that maximizes patient safety. This position also supports the operating room with varied responsibilities and duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS for the Healthcare Provider within 60 days of hire required.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of accredited course in surgical technology.
• Previous job experience with OB.

Responsibilities

• Maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite.
• Handles instruments during the intraoperative phase.
• Maintains the sterile field throughout the surgical procedure.
• Evaluates changing conditions during the surgical procedure.
• Maintains knowledge of cesarean procedures.
• Implements hospital policies.
• Works alongside the Registered Nurse and under the supervision of a surgeon.
• Prepares cesarean procedures with necessary equipment, supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions.
• Provides sterile instruments and supplies throughout the surgical procedure.
• Performs appropriate surgical counts throughout the surgical procedure.
• Anticipates the needs of the physician through proper selection of appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies.
• Troubleshoots and maintains equipment.
• Completes assigned tasks such as inventory, stocking, and cleaning of assigned areas.
• Processes instruments effectively including cleaning, inspection, and testing for proper functioning, assembly, and sterilization.
• Assembles case carts to include all surgery items and instruments in a timely manner for surgical cases.
