Requirements

  • Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education.
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
  • Minimum Experience Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience.
  • Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience.
  • Licensure/Certifications Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
  • Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgical team during operative procedures under the direct supervision of the circulating RN.
  • Provide pre-operative and intra-operative patient care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of use & care of all surgical instruments both intra-operatively & post-operatively.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all surgical electrical equipment as it pertains to optimum working order.
  • Prepare for surgical procedures by turning over room and assessing equipment/set-up needs for next scheduled case.
  • Demonstrate proper scrub technique, gowning & gloving of self & other surgical team members.
  • Demonstrate proper draping technique with appropriate back table & mayo stand set up.
  • Knowledge of name & function of instruments and demonstrate proper care of instruments, intra-operatively & post-operatively.
  • Be attentive to the surgical team and anticipate the next need of the surgeon.
  • Demonstrate proper counting of sponges, instruments & sharps and maintain continuous awareness of their location on the surgical field.
  • Demonstrate accurate care & handling of specimens.
  • Practice Universal Precautions at all times.
  • Order & stock supplies for the L&D Operating Room & L&D unit.
  • Prepare birthing rooms for anticipated vaginal deliveries.
