A Brief Overview The OB Scrub Tech assists in Labor & Delivery, the Nursery and on the nursing unit as directed by a Registered Nurse. This employee answers phones and participates in planning and implementing the patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and based on the Nursing Process. This includes assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, ensures the operating suite is adequately prepared for the procedure, monitors PAR levels of supplies and equipment, and prepares surgical instruments for sterilization.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program maintaining the Surgical Technologist Certification administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or its successor. Upon completion of an accredited program for surgical technologists, graduates may practice for up to 3 months before completing certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified for employment annually Required or High School Diploma and completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard or in the United States Public Health Service. Complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified for employment annually Required
  • Works with patients, families and other health care providers
  • Certified Surgical Technologist - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Required or Have evidence that the individual was employed to practice as a Surgical Technician in a South Carolina Healthcare facility or the federal government prior to Jan 1, 2008 (a break in service will not disqualify the individual if employment as a Surgical Technician is documented prior to Jan 1, 2008) Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association within 30 Days Required
  • Medium Physical Demand

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepares patient charts and outpatient packets
  • Keep other nursing personnel notified of changes
  • Ensure supplies are available in the Nursery, PPE cabinets and daily linen preparation for staff use during ADL’s
  • Assist with toileting and feeding patients as directed by the Registered Nurse
  • Assist the Circulator in proper positioning of the patient
  • Demonstrate proper scrub/sterile techniques
  • Follows proper etiquette when answering phones
