About The Position

OB Patient Care/Scrub Tech: Under supervision of the registered nurse, the OB Patient Care/Scrub Tech performs a variety of tasks and services to assist in the provision of care and comfort to patients in the Family Maternity Unit. Reports and records observations; contributes to the efficient functioning of the unit; and all duties are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. This position also performs “scrub” technologist duties for scheduled and unscheduled cesarean sections, and assists with the draping and utilization of instruments for OB related surgical procedures, while demonstrating knowledge in the basic principles of sterile technique and sterilization procedures.

Requirements

  • CNA certification, or relevant experience is REQUIRED
  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), or Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience performing the essential responsibilities of the nursing assistant role.
  • Also requires a high-school graduate diploma or GED
  • Maintains current CPR certification
  • Successful completion of Nursing Team On-boarding, unit based orientation (including OR technician training program) and clinical competency validation within 60 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents nursing care measures to meet the physical needs of patients as directed by the registered nurse.
  • Performs and documents monitoring procedures; observes and reports the patient response.
  • Performs therapeutic measures/procedure, observes and reports changes, deviations from normal.
  • Maintains safety and security of patient/family/self/others, observing safety precautions and promoting a sense of security and well-being.
  • Promotes efficient and effective functioning of the unit/hospital.
  • Performs additional unit specific tasks/care elements for which they have received specific instruction and demonstrated competence.
  • Performs duties in capacity of “scrub” technologist as prescribed by hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assists in maintenance of safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Assists in the orderly function of the OR.
  • Initiates appropriate intraoperative behaviors unique to first assistant, if trained to do so.
  • Performs other related work as required or requested.
