About The Position

Position Summary: Under the leadership of the Manager, the Phlebotomist – Non-certified is an active member of the department that provides pathology and laboratory studies and analysis for the medical and nursing staff. The Phlebotomist – Non-certified is responsible for the collection of blood samples from patients by venipuncture or micro techniques. The Phlebotomist – Non-certified facilitates the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens.

Requirements

• Requires a high school diploma or a GED state certification and the completion of a Phlebotomy program.
• Requires up to two months of work-related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Requires current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS). (If BLS verification is not current upon hire, it must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)

Responsibilities

• Verifies test requisitions by comparing information with nursing logs and resolves discrepancies.
• Verifies patient using two unique forms of identification.
• Obtains blood specimens by performing venipunctures and finger sticks.
• Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic techniques, following department procedures, and observing isolation procedures.
• Maintains quality results by following department procedures and testing schedules.
• Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, or nursing station.
• Complies with all safety and infection control policies and practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
