About The Position

Renaissance Power, situated in Carson City, Michigan, roughly 50 miles north of Lansing, is a high-performance natural gas-fired facility. Operating in simple cycle mode, the plant features four Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines engineered for efficiency and reliability. With a nominal generating capacity of 660 megawatts, it plays a vital role in delivering dependable power to the region. Opportunity Summary The O&M / Electrical, Controls, and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician role offers the opportunity to support the safe and efficient operation of Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and their associated systems. This position provides hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment up to 345kv, including MCCs, switchgear, and protective devices that form the core of the plant’s electrical infrastructure. The role also allows you to apply advanced diagnostic tools and interpret technical documentation while resolving turbine, control, and station system issues.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in technician roles within power generation, with hands-on experience operating and supporting turbine generators and auxiliary systems, including start-up and shutdown of Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and routine operations in a simple-cycle environment.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining electrical systems up to 345kv, including motors, transformers, switchgear, breakers, and MCC buckets.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety standards, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Proficiency reading and troubleshooting electrical control systems, including ladder logic, PLC diagrams, SCADA interfaces, and control logic schematics.
  • Skilled in interpreting P&IDs, F&IDs, blueprints, and wiring diagrams for troubleshooting, system verification, and equipment walkdowns.
  • Proficient using diagnostic and calibration tools such as Fluke multimeters, PieCal calibrators, Trex testers, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation equipment.
  • Qualified in instrumentation fundamentals, including troubleshooting and calibrating transmitters, sensors, and control valves.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in power plant technology, chemistry, or a related technical field, or engineering is preferred.
  • Alternatively, High School or College coursework in Chemistry is preferred, as it provides a strong foundation for obtaining the required Industrial/Commercial Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certifications more efficiently.
  • Possession of a Storm Water Certified Operator Certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all EC&I work practices comply with NFPA 70E, OSHA electrical safety requirements, and plant-specific lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Inspect, install, repair, and remove motors, transformers, starters, breakers, switches, wiring, and related electrical and control equipment for systems up to 345kv.
  • Read and interpret control logic, ladder logic, PLC diagrams, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and other documentation associated with turbine, station, and protection systems.
  • Perform real-time troubleshooting and preventive and corrective maintenance on turbine control systems, auxiliary control systems, and balance-of-plant control equipment.
  • Utilize advanced instrumentation tools—such as Fluke meters, calibrators, Trex communicators, PieCal devices, and oscilloscopes—to diagnose, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation loops, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and signal conditioning equipment.
  • Support control system expansions, upgrades, and modifications while maintaining and updating electrical drawings, loop sheets, and related technical records.
  • Monitor and operate Siemens Westinghouse 501FD2 combustion turbines and auxiliary systems, including executing safe and efficient start-up and shutdown procedures in accordance with established protocols.
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and respond to alarms within SCADA systems to maintain effective plant control and visibility.
  • Conduct equipment walkdowns using P&IDs and F&IDs to verify proper operation and identify abnormal conditions.
  • Perform switching and tagging of mechanical and electrical systems safely under lead supervision.
  • Operate and maintain plant tools and equipment—including vehicles, cranes, hoists, and welding tools—following required safety practices.
  • Forecast, track, and reorder spare parts while assisting with inventory control and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate logs, technical records, preventive maintenance documentation, and equipment files while updating and preserving plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, and system diagrams.
  • Support OSHA compliance, environmental requirements, and plant safety programs by participating in trainings and emergency drills.
  • Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned by the Plant Manager or designee.
