About The Position

O&M Budget Analyst- Birmingham Job Summary Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC), headquartered in Birmingham, AL, operates Southern Company's eight nuclear reactors at three locations in Georgia and Alabama: four reactors at Plant Vogtle, near Waynesboro, GA; two reactors at Plant Hatch, near Baxley, GA; and two reactors at Plant Farley, near Dothan, AL. This position is part of a team responsible for the online O&M budget process, as well as monthly analysis and reporting at Southern Nuclear. The role involves regular interaction with management on budgeting, reporting, and financial issues from a fleet-wide perspective. This position is also responsible for the following: Compiling and coordinating annual O&M budget and ensuring the budget is prepared and completed in accordance with SNC's goals Compiling and reporting monthly analysis of actual-to-projection data and end-of-year projections, along with monthly close-out duties This position is also responsible for effective communication of budgets, projections, initiatives, and results to management This position interacts regularly with management and department leads regarding budget and financial issues, placing emphasis on sound internal controls

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required)
• Minimum 1 year of experience in financial/accounting disciplines including planning, analysis, and budgeting
• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Experience in operational accounting, budgeting, and cost control (nuclear generation, transmission, distribution, manufacturing is a plus)
• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

• CPA, MBA, or advanced degree in a related field (preferred)
• 3+ years of experience preferred
• Familiarity with utility accounting and FERC requirements (preferred)
• Understanding of Southern Company’s business model and Alabama Power/Georgia Power ratemaking mechanisms (a plus)
