About The Position

The NX Designer at Prefix Corporation is responsible for developing CAD surfacing and designing models and molds to create prototype fiberglass parts. This role involves innovative design concepts, tooling design, and providing support during prototype manufacturing, ensuring adherence to engineering principles and standards.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in CAD Design, surface modeling, B-side design, and mold/die/fixture design.
• General knowledge of automotive engineering standards.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Prior working knowledge of NX11 software.
• Ability to follow direction and work within predetermined timelines.
• Self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time.

Responsibilities

• Create innovative design concepts and complete product designs in 3D.
• Coordinate design-related workload with designated Design Engineer.
• Apply engineering principles to design, modify or develop components for low-volume or prototype applications.
• Recommend materials for project applications.
• Design tooling molds/fixtures for prototype manufacturing.
• Create run-off surface for milling and develop drawings for foam glue-up sizes.
• Design steel tube framework for models and layout full assembly of components.
• Follow drawing release and engineering change processes, performing all necessary clash/clearance checks.
• Adhere to Design for Manufacturing standards for part creation.
• Provide support to the Design Engineer to create applicable Bill of Materials for projects.
• Assist shop floor with any assembly issues during prototype manufacturing.
• Use a first principles based approach to problem solving and participate in cross-functional teams.
