About The Position

The Mobile Maintenance Technician Assistant Manager will collaborate in leading the Mobile Maintenance Crew through the repair and maintenance of the Mobile Assets. Additionally, this role will closely collaborate with Black Rock Station (BRS) Ranch Operations Management and onsite operations . This is a temporary, full-time , non-exempt role based in Gerlach, NV, running from March to November 2026. The deadline to apply for this role is 5:00 pm Pacific on February 13th, 2026 .

Requirements

  • Direct experience with Mobile Trailer construction.
  • Experience in, or working knowledge of, metal fabrication and residential or commercial electrical and plumbing.
  • Understanding of construction scheduling, cost control, and large-scale project management.
  • Extensive knowledge of construction methods and/or structural engineering.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead by example, motivate teams and work with a volunteer labor force.
  • Working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of MaintainX.
  • Experienced in the use of Google Sketchup or similar CAD software.
  • Instills and applies order and cleanliness to the work environment and pays careful attention to detail in handling important information.
  • Effectively manages own time; highly organized, able to prioritize, detail-oriented, and motivated.
  • Able to recognize the need for and keep confidentiality.
  • Physically fit and able to safely lift heavy objects (minimum 50 pounds).
  • Willing and able to travel and relocate to Gerlach, NV, for the work season.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising major projects in remote wilderness and/or desert environments.
  • First-Aid knowledge.
  • It is helpful if the candidate has previously been to Burning Man and/or is familiar with its culture.
  • RVIA certification.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the condition of all living mobile BMP assets and pre-approved PUAs.
  • Assess, troubleshoot and rectify a variety of problems associated with mobile/trailer living, including, but not limited to: basic plumbing, sewage, propane, and electrical systems.
  • Oversee routine general maintenance and repair of Mobile Housing Assets and pre-approved PUAs (e.g., filter replacements, door knob replacements, key loss, window replacements/repair, air conditioner troubleshooting).
  • Collaborate to procure specialized parts and equipment needed to perform repairs and upkeep on Mobile Housing Assets and pre-approved PUAs.
  • Anticipate repair needs and order the necessary parts as early in the season as possible.
  • Ensure the safe living condition of all Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, at all times by monitoring for harmful substances, including mold, animal waste, and water impurities, and verifying the presence of effective carbon monoxide detection and fire prevention equipment.
  • Supervise the Mobile Maintenance Team (Technicians and Technician Apprentices) in assessing and remedying issues relating to staff trailers.
  • Oversee end-of-year processes to adequately prepare all Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, for winter storage; capture details of any repairs needed over the winter and in the spring.
  • Establish and oversee the maintenance of a clean and safe work site; ensure all team members have the necessary safety equipment.
  • Create and maintain written documentation of all required repairs, grading status, allocations, etc.
  • Present documentation for the Housing team to utilize for planning.
  • Keep a detailed inventory of all parts, expendables, tools, and shop equipment, and other necessary maintenance items.
  • Parts inventory must be constantly updated in MaintainX.
  • Expendables, tools, and shop equipment inventory must be reported at the end of each postseason.
  • Make sure that all tools, parts, expendables, equipment, etc, are ordered in a timely manner, and preemptively when possible.
  • Track the location of re-usable inventory (e.g., extension cords, adapters, fresh water hoses, sewer hoses, portable air conditioner units, heaters, etc).
  • Assume responsibility for and ensure that all documentation noted and any additional reports meet the standards outlined and shared by the NV Ops drive.
  • Work with the Housing Managers to maintain continuity in what and how work is documented.
  • Accurately document and track repairs; provide up-to-date logs of work and material usage as requested.
  • Provide written feedback describing the successes of the season and areas in need of improvement to improve overall efficiency and suggestions.
  • Distribute any relevant information to crew members in a timely fashion.
  • Attend and support crew attendance at daily Morning Meetings.
  • As requested, participate in Managers’ Meetings, create reports, and maintain related correspondence.
  • Maintain clear communication regarding hours with crew members; ensure that hours are reported by the weekly deadline.
  • Be aware of the atmosphere within the crew, and communicate concerns regarding social climate and protocol.
  • Monitor the well-being of staff and set manageable work expectations.
  • Communicate crew needs to the Mobile Maintenance Manager as they arise.
  • Know, share, and use the proper communication pathways for escalating personnel issues.
  • Learn how to and, as needed, create proper supporting documentation regarding such matters.
  • Meet weekly with the Mobile Maintenance Manager and Supervisor to ensure a collaborative and supportive work environment for all crew members.
  • Work with the Mobile Maintenance Technician Manager and the Housing Managers to facilitate the overview of the BMT fleet and other necessary mobile housing repairs.
  • Maintain clear communication with the NVO Housing Dispatch for the safe transportation and delivery of readied Mobile Housing Assets and pre-approved PUAs, as scheduled.
  • Ensure schedules are up to date and obligations are met.
  • Ready Mobile Housing Assets, and pre-approved PUAs, for safe and reliable travel between various Burning Man properties and Black Rock City.
  • This will entail moving trailers several times between the different locations based on schedules.
  • Abide by the rules and codes of conduct described in the NVO Leadership Toolbox, NVO Compass, Ranch Protocols, and the Mobile Maintenance S.O.P.
  • Serve as a mentor, positive role model, and team leader directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job, instructing, and sharing skills as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment and train Mobile Maintenance staff to uphold and practice discretion.
  • Work with the Mobile Maintenance Team to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the Black Rock Station Manager.
  • Drives the creation, publishing, and maintenance of process documentation related to assigned duties.
  • Takes a leadership role in the acculturation and training of staff.
  • Teaches live or e-learning classes, as requested.
  • Promotes a culture of teaching and learning throughout the community.
  • Mentors subordinates in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and experience that will allow them to advance in the organization.
  • Aids, encourages and inspires their team.
  • Collaborates with the education team to develop training materials in their area of expertise, as requested.
  • Pursues ongoing learning in their area of expertise, working to stay current on emergent knowledge, skills, and processes.
