About The Position

Position Overview: Akicita Federal is seeking a qualified and compassionate Nutritionist/Nutrition Educator to provide comprehensive medical nutrition therapy (MNT) and patient-centered dietary education as part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team. This role supports Indian Health Service (IHS) patients by promoting culturally appropriate nutrition and wellness practices across various clinical settings, including outpatient, inpatient, and community health.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
• State licensure (if applicable) or eligibility to obtain licensure in the state of assignment.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing clinical nutrition services.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical records and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working in IHS, tribal, or rural healthcare environments.
• Knowledge of Native American dietary patterns, cultural preferences, and community health practices.
• BLS Certification (may be required based on duty location).

Responsibilities

• Conduct individualized nutrition assessments and develop evidence-based nutrition care plans tailored to patient needs.
• Provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease.
• Educate patients and families on healthy eating habits, label reading, and culturally relevant meal planning.
• Support interdisciplinary care by collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health professionals.
• Deliver group classes, health promotion events, and community outreach programs focused on nutrition and wellness.
• Document all patient interactions in the electronic health record system (e.g., RPMS/EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, audits, and program development related to nutrition services.
• Provide training and guidance to paraprofessional staff or diet technician aides as needed.
