About The Position

This position is for a Nutrition Therapist in Specialty Services, focusing on Outpatient Neurology. The role involves managing medical nutrition care for patients with complex nutritional needs, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to integrate nutrition care into the overall patient plan. The therapist will utilize the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assess nutrition status, identify diagnoses, and develop, implement, and evaluate nutrition care plans for patients at nutrition risk. Key responsibilities also include providing nutrition education and counseling to patients, families, and the community, training nutrition and other healthcare students, and participating in process improvement, outcomes measurement, and nutrition-focused clinical research. This is a part-time position with specific working hours on Monday, Tuesday (full days), and Friday (half day).

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of relevant clinical practice experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and completion of an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.
  • Completion of required nutrition and dietetics coursework and supervised practice through a Didactic Program in Dietetics and Dietetic Internship, Coordinated Program in Dietetics, or Future Graduate Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Knowledge and application of Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT).
  • Knowledge and application of Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE).
  • Clear and consistent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient in use of technology and its applications, including word processing, nutrient analysis, spreadsheet software.
  • Critical thinking to integrate facts, informed opinions, active listening and observation.
  • Analysis of information to identify implications, develop solutions and conclusions and evaluate each alternative to make sound decisions based on appropriate data.
  • Service excellence and patient centered care.
  • Interpersonal skills (respect, honesty, fairness, positive attitude toward colleagues and customers).
  • Focus on customer satisfaction when working with patients, families, coworkers, other departments, physicians/ providers, and the community.
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist (LMNT) by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in nutrition and dietetics, or related area granted by a US regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent.
  • Specialty certification, e.g., Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE), Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC).

Responsibilities

  • Manage medical nutrition care for patients who are nutritionally complex.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to integrate nutrition care with the patient's overall plan of care throughout the continuum.
  • Use the Nutrition Care Process and Terminology (NCPT) to assess nutrition status, identify nutrition diagnoses, and develop, implement and evaluate outcomes of nutrition care plans for patients at nutrition risk.
  • Use skills, knowledge, evidence-based practice, and clinical judgment to address prevention, delay, or management of acute or chronic diseases and conditions for individuals and groups.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to patients, families and the community.
  • Train nutrition and other health care profession students in the clinical and classroom setting.
  • Conduct process improvement, outcomes measurement and nutrition focused clinical research and participate in interprofessional process improvement initiatives for specified patient populations.
