Since 1972 Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia has been helping older adults and their caregivers to live in the community with choice and dignity. Oversee congregate nutrition programs and activities for citizens age 60 and older in South Hampton Roads. Work is performed under general supervision, reporting directly to the Wellness Manager.

  • Ensure all nutrition and wellness programs meet mandated guidelines and support participants’ nutritional, physical, recreational, and wellness needs.
  • Oversee sanitation and safety of kitchen facilities and equipment, maintaining all documentation required for Health Department compliance.
  • Collaborate with Wellness, Transit, and other agency leadership to ensure accurate communication, effective marketing, strong budgeting, and high participant satisfaction.
  • Participate in budget discussions related to program capacity, census trends, and operational needs.
  • Engage in ongoing education, training, and best-practice research to strengthen program quality, sustainability, and cost containment.
  • Hire, train, and supervise nutrition program staff across community partner locations, ensuring compliance with food safety program management standards.
  • Support center staff and assist the Wellness Manager in staffing, event planning, site coverage, and supervision as needed.
  • Communicate with and support volunteers in the congregate meal program to ensure proper placement and satisfaction.
  • Manage the accuracy and timeliness of data entry for internal and grant reporting, including the collection of reports from community partners.
  • Determine participant eligibility and ensure compliance with Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitation Services (DARS) requirements.
  • Conduct customer surveys, compile results, address issues, and support resolution of complaints in coordination with the Manager and relevant vendors.
  • Serve as primary liaison to community partners, such as Parks and Recreation, to ensure facilities remain accessible, clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • Assist partners with community events when appropriate.
  • Foster strong collaboration with partner agencies to enhance service delivery and participant experience.
  • Act as the primary contact with meal vendors to ensure meal quality, efficiency, safe food handling, and customer satisfaction in alignment with performance agreements.
  • Work closely with the Transit Supervisor to monitor drivers’ performance related to meal delivery and participant transportation.
  • Review and approve special transportation requests prior to submission to Transit.
  • Assist in overseeing events coordinated by departmental staff.
  • Support center-level activities, event planning, and information collection across partner sites.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of nutrition and wellness resources to support the senior population. Comprehensive knowledge of programs and activities that meet Virginia standards including evidence-based wellness and nutrition programs.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices used in kitchen sanitation; safety measures used in food handling and equipment care and cleaning.
  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel. Must have superior data entry skills as well aptitude for learning industry specific software.
  • Ability to work remotely. This position has the flexibility to work a set hybrid schedule with both in office and remote hours, after training is completed
  • Regular independent travel throughout Senior Services coverage area to monitor senior centers’ operations is an essential job function of this position, with in-office attendance for meetings, training, supervision, and other administrative duties required.
  • Associates Degree in health, business, management, public administration or related field from an accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum 1 (one) years’ experience in supervision.
  • A valid and current Virginia driver's license is required and must meet agency requirements.
