About The Position

The Swine Nutrition and Management Technician play a critical role in advancing the health, nutrition, and overall productivity of swine herds through the application of animal science principles. This position integrates scientific knowledge of animal physiology, nutrition, and behavior with hands-on husbandry and facility management practices. By implementing bio-security standards, monitoring herd environments, and applying evidence-based animal care strategies, the technician ensures both compliance with animal welfare regulations and the achievement of company performance goals. Pay is 19.50/Hr. This role requires strong technical expertise in livestock management, precise data collection and reporting, and the ability to respond to complex herd health and operational needs in a timely manner. The Swine Nutrition and Management Technician serve as a vital link between production practices and scientific oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Animal Care & Health Management Conduct daily herd observations to evaluate animal health, welfare, and behavior, applying animal science principles to identify early signs of illness or stress.
  • Administer vaccinations, medications, and prescribed treatments in alignment with veterinary protocols.
  • Implement targeted strategies to maximize survivability and growth performance across all production phases.
  • Facility & Environmental Management Regulate barn environments by monitoring and adjusting ventilation, temperature, and humidity for animal comfort.
  • Sanitize and pressure wash facilities to sustain bio-secure and hygienic conditions.
  • Perform preventative and corrective facility maintenance to support safe, efficient operations.
  • Nutrition & Feeding Programs Manage ordering, inventory, and quality control of feed supplies.
  • Monitor feed consumption and ensure consistent access to adequate feed and water.
  • Apply nutritional management strategies to support optimal growth and herd health outcomes.
  • Data Collection, Reporting & Compliance Maintain accurate and timely records of herd performance, feed use, health status, and environmental conditions.
  • Complete regulatory and internal compliance checklists (e.g., wash and mechanical audits, CSIA, seasonal protocols).
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and performance benchmarking.
  • Animal Movement & Handling Safely receive, sort, grade, and load swine in accordance with animal welfare standards.
  • Apply low-stress handling techniques to maintain animal well-being during movement.
  • Emergency Response & Operational Support Respond immediately to alarms or urgent issues impacting animal health or site operations.
  • Assist in site setup, medication deliveries, scheduling, and other operational functions.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to exceed site performance and productivity targets.
