About The Position

The Nutrition Educator position within the Florida Department of Health focuses on providing nutrition counseling and education to participants of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. The role involves assessing clients' nutritional status, developing care plans, and ensuring compliance with state regulations while working with a diverse population. The educator will also participate in outreach activities and manage clinic operations in the absence of a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Nutritional Sciences, Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition, Dietetics, or Public Health Nutrition.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, clinical, biochemical, and dietary data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing and orally.
  • Ability to conduct group education sessions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish and/or English/Creole.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nutrition counseling and education to WIC participants.
  • Deliver breastfeeding education to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women.
  • Document findings and recommendations for all clients in the WIC electronic record.
  • Consult healthcare professionals and make recommendations concerning nutritional findings and needs of clients.
  • Assess clients' nutritional status and determine program eligibility based on income and nutrition guidelines.
  • Refer medically high-risk clients to the Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist as per guidelines.
  • Develop, document, evaluate, and revise nutrition care plans for individual high-risk clients.
  • Participate in outreach activities including health fairs and community programs.
  • Ensure accurate completion and timely submission of all administrative records.
  • Supervise and manage clinic operations in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Organize and manage general education materials and office supplies.
