The Nutrition Educator is responsible for providing nutrition assessments, education, and counseling to low-risk clients in Leon, Jefferson, Taylor, Madison, Wakulla, and Franklin counties for the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Program. This position is under the direct supervision of the Public Health Nutrition Supervisor. Valid driver license must be maintained, travel is required. Certifies and provides appropriate nutrition assessment and nutrition counseling for low-risk clients eligible pregnant, breastfeeding, and postpartum women, infants and children to age five for the WIC program. Conducts classes, demonstrations, and other nutrition education activities for WIC clients. Prepares nutrition education materials (newsletter, handouts) to use for the WIC program. Prepares and provides outreach materials for private physicians, schools, community, and health care agencies. Participates in health fairs and provides nutrition education programs for the community. Promotes and supports breastfeeding to the WIC clients and the community. Assists with planning, implementing, and evaluating the public health nutrition program for the WIC clients, health department patients and staff. Attends seminars and workshops on WIC policies and procedures, breastfeeding and nutrition to keep current in field. Complies with all rules and regulations in the Employee Handbook. Perform other related duties as required. Attends staff meetings and other related in-services to keep current on pertinent rules, regulations, and procedures. Travel is required.
