About The Position

Under the direction of the Nutrition Initiatives Manager, the Nutrition Education Specialist supports the integration of health and nutrition throughout Three Square’s programs and operations. This role advances policy, systems, and environment (PSE) strategies, including the implementation of the food bank’s nutrition policy, by assisting with food inventory ranking, staff training, and the development of resources that make nutrition standards part of everyday practice. This role also delivers nutrition education in community settings for children, adults, and seniors, ensuring that neighbors have practical tools to make healthy choices. In addition, this position assists the Nutrition Initiatives Manager with ongoing and future initiatives, providing flexibility to respond to organizational needs and opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public Health, or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience in nutrition education, community health, or public health program implementation.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to teach, present, and collaborate with diverse groups.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, think critically, and adapt to shifting organizational needs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); general internet navigation.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Maintains confidentiality and compliance with Three Square policies and procedures.
  • Local travel required; must maintain a valid driver’s license, insurance, and use of personal vehicle.
  • Employment is contingent on passing a background check and drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Credentialed as a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR/NDTR).
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish).
  • Familiarity with food insecurity, nonprofit environments, or community-based nutrition programs.
  • Experience with cooking demonstrations or interactive teaching formats.
  • Excellent public speaking, teaching, and facilitation abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute ideas in a professional manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with cultural humility.
  • Ability to develop educational content using tools such as Canva (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with advancing policy, systems, and environment (PSE) strategies, including implementation of the Nutrition Policy and food inventory ranking using the Healthy Eating Research (HER) Nutrition Guidelines.
  • Support integration of nutrition standards into food bank operations, programs, and partner services.
  • Coordinate tools and resources that help staff and partners apply nutrition standards.
  • Contribute to internal reporting, progress tracking, and grant deliverables related to policy implementation.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver evidence-based nutrition education through classes, handouts, and activities tailored to children, adults, and seniors.
  • Conduct cooking demonstrations, workshops, and other interactive sessions, including preparation of materials and supplies.
  • Collect and track pre/post surveys and feedback, including data entry, to assess impact and inform program improvements.
  • Collaborate with the Nutrition Initiatives Manager to refine curricula and ensure alignment with Three Square’s nutrition initiatives.
  • Provide technical nutrition support to internal departments, agency partners, and community organizations.
  • Develop educational content for outreach, training, and communications.
  • Participate in meetings, community events, and partner engagements.
  • Assist with evaluation and data collection efforts, including partner and neighbor feedback on food preferences and needs.
  • Support innovative projects that strengthen healthier food access and nutrition equity in Southern Nevada.
